I'm a little late to the party on this one because by the time the replay hit I had to watch Sony. Damn you work!
But finally I'm here to talk a little bit about the Microsoft Press Conference from Gamescom 2014. Did they succeed? Find out here.
We start with Ubisoft and their new Assassin's Creed game, Assassin's Creed Unity. After a slow build-up, we see our hero running and platforming around the city, while we get a pretty cool piano track. It is coming on the 28th of October.
I can't understand a word of what this guy is saying but there's scrolling text on the bottom of the screen instead of a translator, then we get Phil Spencer. Hey Phil.
After the normal corporate spiel about how Xbox and gaming is awesome, we are told that they are going to bring the Xbox to 29 new markets on September 2.
He mentions Grand Theft Auto 5, and you can carry your character over. He then mentions Destiny, FIFA 15, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 2, Ori And The Blind Forest and the Master Chief Collection.
Phil then announces that there are some new bundles coming.
We move onto FIFA 15, and it will have exclusive content for the Xbox. With the new EA Access, you can play it before anyone else on Xbox One. People in Europe will be able to get a FIFA 15 bundle. They bring out a legend to create a FIFA Ultimate Team. I actually enjoy FIFA despite not loving soccer/football, and I guess why Microsoft chose to talk so much about this while they're in Germany but is this really the best way to basically start the press conference (I mean after the opening speech)? This is way too long and not very exciting. As a rule I don't think spending a lot of time on an annual sports title is a good idea. I mean, gamers know what to expect, and because of being bored it's giving me a lot of time to complain.
ah good, we're moving on.
Chris Charla struts onto the stage, and talks about how they have a lot of indie games in the works. Then we get a quick preview. Yay montages of games: Blues and Bullets, Cuphead, Dungeon of the Endless, Fruit Ninja Kinect 2, Funk of Titans, Ghost of a Tale, Goat Simulator, Gunscape, Massive Chalice, Inside, Knight Squad, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, #IDARB, No Time to Explain, Plague Inc: Evolved, Rivals of Aether, Smite, SlashDash, Space Engineers, Spectra, Pneuma: Breath of Life, Threes!, The Escapists, Volgarr the Viking, SpeedRunners, Superhot.
I'm already really high on a lot of these, like #IDARB, and Goat Simulator is already awesome. I won't talk about all of these but the future is bright on the indie game side of Xbox.
He talks about Space Engineers a bit and we see a video. On console, it will arrive first on Xbox One. I saw it on Steam and it looked interesting there so good for Xbox One. I would call this a victory.
Then, first to console on Xbox One, we got Superhot. I've never actually seen it but time only moves when you do which is neat. The trailer is really annoying because it keeps repeating SUPER... HOT. I get it. Outside of that, I dig the style and idea of this. I wonder if it's super hot though?
Then we get a preview of The Escapists, and I got into this game when I did my feature of new games releasing that week. It's already in Alpha on PC, but it's also coming to Xbox first when it hits consoles. This is a game worth checking out for sure.
Then we get to see Smite, another first to console on Xbox One. It's a MOBA that apparently will be fun to play with a controller. You get to play as a God. I like playing as Gods. I am a God. On the Godly. Okay I'm done, I just don't have a lot to do while I watch this footage. In all seriousness this is shaping up to be a good MOBA.
Chris leaves the stage and we see more of Below. There's no way around it, and I've seen saying it since I saw it the first time (before we even knew much about it): this game is going to be awesome. This new footage adds a lot of intrigue to the whole thing, not that it didn't already have its mysteries.
Hey Phil is back! And he's talking about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare! Sony focuses on Destiny and Microsoft focuses on CoD... I think Sony wins that. Maybe not financially, but artistically. Anyway, I hope the two co-founders of Sledgehammer Games don't just razz each other awkwardly like they did yesterday during the multiplayer reveal. At least they brought new footage, this time the single-player.
The new footage shows player actually driving a vehicle and then once it crashes they proceed on foot. Looks like CoD, smells like CoD. There is an Advanced Warfare bundle that you can pre-order today. Of note; the add-on content is available first on Xbox One. Now, moving on.
Here we go... Evolve. We get to see a new map called The Distillery. Evolve is going to be a lot of fun and the idea of the 4 vs 1 multiplayer is awesome. I like it being described as "boss battles where a player controls the boss." I just don't know how much replay value it will have and that scares me a bit.
There is an open beta in January only on Xbox One. It will be out February 10, 2015.
Next we have Rise of the Tomb Raider and it is now an Xbox exclusive. It will be coming in "Holiday 2015." It's a new month that Microsoft is creating.
From now on, every game here is exclusive.
We get a world premiere demo of Quantum Break, and it looks cool. In the video we see the main character walk around a bit, but we get to see some of the time manipulation when he runs during a gunfight and they lose track of him. He can also freeze time or even catch bullets and throw them back at the enemies. I don't think this game is going to be completely mind-blowing, but I have faith in Remedy that they will give us a great game. Or at the very least solid. Quantum Break looks to be that right now.
Next on the agenda is Fable Legends. I'm still not sold on this. I like the co-op idea and being able to play as a villain but it didn't grab me at E3 and it isn't doing it now either. Sign up for the beta October 16 if you are interested.
Now whatcha gonna show me? It turns out that they partnered with Frontier and in Spring of next year we are going to have a new game where you make roller coasters, titled Screamride.
Next we have Forza 5. We get new cars... today! For free!
Forza Horizon 2 is up in our grill next. It has an open-world, lots of events and a shit-ton of cars. They're encouraging you to play with friends, and there are driveatars. You can join a car club and earn Forza Fuel and unlock stuff.
Ori and the Blind Forest is a pretty game. I enjoyed it at E3 and nothing has changed. It's a gorgeous platformer and the footage they showed (with the character being chased by water) was pretty intense, with some neat platforming mechanics. I imagine this will get a lot of praise when it drops because it looks to be critic bait: amazing visuals, fun jumping and a lot of intrigue. I'm not saying "critic bait" as an insult because I'm ridiculously excited to. Pick it up on Xbox One and PC this holiday season.
Ted Price, the President of Insomniac Games, rocks onto the stage knowing he's about to talk about something we're all already crazy for. I don't even need to know more about Sunset Overdrive to know I need it. And neither do you, but we get more info and footage anyway.
The big news is that there's a special edition Sunset Overdrive bundle. You can pre-order it today, and you get Day One weapons and stuff.
Hey, that attractive girl from 343 Industries is back. What's better than an attractive girl if you're a straight male or a gay girl? Or a bi? An attractive girl who wants to talk about Halo. On December 29th, there's a Halo 5 multiplayer beta. Along with the Master Chief collection, there will be a Halo channel. It's like the WWE Network but with Halo! Or not. But it does seem really cool. Immerse yourself in that shit because there seems to be a lot of content and different things to watch.
You can watch things like Halo: Nightfall, explore the universe or join friends across any game in the Halo universe. There's also Twitch integration.
I know it's been said before, but damn the Master Chief Collection has a lot of content. They showed off part of the campaign in Halo 2... first they start off in classic mode and then they switch to the updated graphics.
Next we get to hear about the ranking system. Fans were vocal about liking the ranking system in Halo 2 so the ranking system in this is identical to that. People there can play some of the game on the floor. I can't because I suck, but have fun if you're there!
Next we got Halo 5. The focus on the beta will be 4 vs 4 arena combat. They have seven maps, three modes, eleven weapons and some armor customization. They will have small maps and no different loadouts. It will be sixty frames per-second. You can unlock some things in the beta that will carry over to the full game.
You will be able to pre-order and pre-download games too.
Microsoft definitely had more of a focus on AAA titles than Sony, and they definitely have some really interesting indie games that are going to show up on their system. I don't know how many of those are exclusive, though, so it may not matter that much in terms of competition. However, the new Tomb Raider being an Xbone exclusive is definitely big news. So after a really slow start, they kicked it up and did a good job.
This is a blog about video games. Articles, reviews, trailers, opinion pieces, other stuffs... as long as it's about video games, we doin' this.

E3 2014 Closing Ceremony/Awards
Written By: Tyler
Well, this is it, ladies and gentlemen. There's only one more E3-related post to be made and it's one to celebrate the whole event. I will not be doing individual awards like, "Best Action Game" or awarding games for being the best game on a particular system. Unfortunately, since I'm not there, there are a lot of games I never got to see because I had to rely on feeds.
I appreciate anybody who tuned in and read my numerous articles throughout this entire thing. Now let's get on with this.
Game Of The Show
Winner: Evolve
Before I talk about the winner, I have to explain that I had a hard time choosing this. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with the game that I am most excited for, because then Metal Gear Solid V would have gotten the nod because I've been excited for that since before it was even announced. Or maybe I wanted to go with the game that had the best presentation... not necessarily the game that I think will be the best, but the game that had the best video. Battlefield: Hardline might have won that because the one video where we actually watch a heist was so intense I couldn't wait. Games like Super Smash Bros. didn't get the nod because I know I'll love it but E3 did nothing to further that... Smash Bros. is Smash Bros. and it will be glorious. So, to get my winner, I kind of put the two elements together and came up with Evolve.
Evolve was not a game that I was super into before E3. I watched the videos, saw the gameplay, but it was during E3 that I came to love it. It just finally clicked with me how original, daring and exciting it is. It's still not the game I anticipate most, because there are a bunch of games in the honourable mentions that I'd rather play, but Evolve totally won me over, and that's reason enough to make it Game of the Show in my eyes.
Honourable Mentions
Sunset Overdrive
Battlefield: Hardline
The Witcher 3
Batman: Arkham Knight
Rainbow Six: Siege
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Super Smash Bros.
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Far Cry 4
Surprise Of The Show
Winner: Let It Die
My logic for why this won is more simplistic than my logic for Game of the Show. I love Suda51 and I didn't know this game was being made. So thus, I am excited to see what the crazy bastard does. It beats out the announcement of Star Fox because I had read articles about it beforehand, and I didn't mention the Zelda announcement because that was pretty much a guarantee. Mursaki Baby looked lovely, and #IDARB has one of the neatest concepts of the entire show. Splatoon is also an interesting concept and the fact it's a cool Wii U game made me care more.
Honourable Mentions
Murasaki Baby
#IDARB
Splatoon
The Star Fox Announcement
Press Conference of The Show
Winner: Nintendo followed by Sony, then Ubisoft, then Microsoft... then a distant EA
When I first wrote about the Nintendo Digital Event (yes I know it isn't technically a press conference), I was more warm about it than hot. But then I have thought about it since and it was an excellent mixture of games and theatrics. It was funny, but all about the games, and Nintendo did a great job.
Sony is my primary system so I was emotionally invested in it, but it lost some momentum throughout, until it eventually came back in a big way.
Ubisoft is a great company with interesting games and their presentation was extremely theatrical. It was kind of a nerdy concert.
Microsoft did a great job and made it all about the games.
EA was boring and they didn't focus enough on actual gameplay.
Disappointment of the Show
Winner: No Metroid
Nintendo killed it anyway, and announced two big franchises, but damn it Ninty, where is my Metroid?
Honourable Mention
No mention of The Last Guardian
Unrealistic Desires For E3
Announcements for Timesplitters 4, The World Ends With You 2 and a new installment of The Last Vikings. I knew none of this would happen but I hoped that they would be announced.
As a closing statement, I would just like to say that I noticed a lot of co-op games, whether it was new IPs, or old IPs that are now implementing co-op, it seemed like there was more of a focus on it, which is thrilling for me because I'm a huge fan of that. I also noticed that they're bringing a lot of "old" games to new systems. In cases such as Grand Theft Auto 5, that's exciting, but what do you think about it? Will you re-buy games you already own just because they're now next-gen? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @ArtBathednCrime.
With that, I close down my last remaining feed (a Gamespot wrap-up show) and bid you farewell, and goodbye to E3 until next year. Now it's time to go outside. Well, maybe I'll sleep first.

E3 Day 1 (Part 2): The Other Stuff Of The Day
Written By: Tyler
Now that the main press conferences are over, it's down to whatever news
trickles out and gameplay impressions. It's time to open up multiple Firefox windows and watch a few different live streams at a time. I will use this post to sum up
some of the news and whatnot of the day that caught my attention, and I will divide the post into "News" and "Impressions."
News
Devil's Third Is A Wii U Exclusive
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/e3-2014-devils-third-is-a-wii-u-exclusive
It looks like Nintendo has picked up another exclusive game, and this one is a more adult-oriented third person shooter, with gore and dismemberment. Whether it'll be something special or a dud will only become clear in time, but it's a good thing for Nintendo that they're getting this.
Star Fox Exists!
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/e3-2014-star-fox-coming-to-wii-u-miyamoto-reveals-new-projects
I didn't catch the tease in the Nintendo Digital Event because I must have been asleep or something, but this is huge news for Nintendo.
Mario Party 10 Is Coming To The Wii U
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/e3-2014-mario-party-10-coming-to-wii-u
I haven't actually played a Mario Party in years but a new one always has the potential for fun. This one will have a new "Bowser Mode" that allows the person using the Gamepad to become Bowser and give trouble to the other players.
Fantasy Life Is The Next RPG By Level 5... And It's For The 3DS
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/e3-2014-level-5-announces-fantasy-life-for-nintendo-3ds
So far, for me, the 3DS has been a combination RPG/Life Simulator machine, and Level 5 is continuing that for me... literally releasing a game that is both. From IGN:
Mario vs Donkey Kong Is Coming To The Wii U
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/mario-vs-donkey-kong-coming-to-wii-u
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/art-academy-on-wii-u-gets-october-release-window
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Is Coming To The PS4 And Xbox One
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/final-fantasy-type-0-hd-announced-for-xbox-one-and-ps4
There's a remastered version of the Japan only, Playstation Portable RPG, Final Fantasy Type-0 coming to next-gen consoles. There's no release date yet, but it looks cool and it'll be nice to see it localized for the first time ever. Yeah, America rocks!
Impressions
These are the games that I got to see more of today.
Sunset Overdrive -- It still looks like one of the funnest games that was at E3. Just pure craziness, colourful and fast.
Fable Legends -- I think it looks okay, and the co-op should be fun. I still feel the same way as I did when I saw it during the press conference. It's probably going to be solid but I'm not unbelievably hyped for it by any means.
The Division -- Even though all I saw was the same video that we saw at the press conferences, it had developer commentary over it. I'm really excited for it still and love how it has RPG elements like loot drops and whatnot. They explained the multiplayer a little bit more, and it sounds like it's going to be fluid and not be a typical, generic MMO.
Heavy Bullets -- I had never heard of this game before so I was curious about it. In my mind, I expected a grim cover-based shooter or a really silly shooter, but it's a lot different. The first time I saw the visuals I was caught off guard, but not really in a good way. It's colourful, and the concept of the game -- very limited bullets so you have to aim well -- is interesting but from the video I've seen, I'm just not feeling it.
Xenoblade Chronicles X -- It looks like an evolution of the first Xenoblade Chronicles, which isn't a bad thing. The combat looks deeper, the variety in weapons is nice, the world still looks huge and oh yeah, giant robots. I can't see anybody who loved the first one hating this.
Homefront: The Revolution -- I'm sure it'll be decent, but it honestly just looks like another shooter to me.
Driveclub -- The video I saw was not the most exciting thing ever, since it didn't have online connectivity. All they did was drive, but everything looked pretty already. I am not a big racing game fan but I hope this ends up being good, especially considering all the delays.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor -- This still looks like one of the best games coming up, mostly because of the way relationships and the world changes based on your actions. If this game lives up to what they're promising, this will be truly special, and seeing the demo of it just confirms the potential.
Destiny -- I saw some multiplayer footage of Destiny, and the mechanics look solid. It looks and feels like Halo in a lot of ways to me, at least looking at the video. I can't wait to try this bad boy out.
Some footage I wanted to see but missed: The Order: 1886, No Man's Sky
Okay, I have work early in the morning and I've already stayed up too late. I know that the day isn't over yet, but I will have to catch up on the rest of Day 1 tomorrow and maybe do a quick little shout-out to today in my Day 2 post.
What have you liked about Day 1 of E3? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @ArtBathednCrime.

E3 Day 0 (Part 1) -- The Microsoft Press Conference
Written By: Tyler
First thing's first, I have to do the obligatory Eminem reference when you've been gone from something for a while. Guess who's back? Back again, Tyler's back, tell my friends (because seriously, they have assumed I'm dead). Yes ladies and gents, I have been gone for almost a month. I went away, and I wasn't sure if I'd even bother writing anymore, but once in a while I'd check out the stats on this blog and I was still getting some views so I figure why not?
And now, what better time to come back than the Superbowl of gaming? It's E3 time, and here's my game plan: I am not a professional blog -- if you can't tell by now -- so I have no E3 press credentials or anything, and I have a real job to go to, but I intend on watching as much as I can during the next few days. At the end of each day, I will make a post talking about the day. Now, because of my work schedule (I have some really early mornings), there may be some press conferences or news I miss, but if I do, I will talk about that the next day.
As the Microsoft Press Conference went on, I realized just how big it was. I don't want to bombard you people with one completely massive post, so I tell ya what... this post has just become a Microsoft-only post, which means you will be getting multiple posts each day, depending on how long the posts are. I imagine EA and Ubisoft won't be as huge, so I might pair them into a single post. We'll see how it goes. Look at me adapting.
The first press conference of the day was Microsoft and it was great.
When the lights went down we were bombarded with a lot of flashy images and a countdown. Once the countdown hit 0, the Xbox symbol came up and Phil Spencer got beamed down from space (okay he walked out). After the typical corporate talk about how awesome games are and how great we are, he said that this presentation is all about the games this time, which is welcome because we all remember how bad last year went.
The first game that is shown is, of course, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Xbox owners will be the first to play all additional content for the game. I'm glad that Call of Duty is going a little more Sci-Fi this time around, and the footage looked like it could breathe fresh air into the franchise, but to be honest, I'm like a lot of gamers at this point where I'd need to play it and see how it is because I'm just not hyped. It definitely looks more interesting than the previous few, though.
There's a new, free track for Forza 5... and you can get it now. So, you know, do that.
Then there's Forza Horizon 2. It's 1080p and has stuff like dynamic weather. It also apparently has no lobbies so you can get right into the action. You can get it on September 30th of this year. I've never actually played a Forza and I'm not a huge racer fan so I'm not real excited, but it does look like it'll be a good time so I think any racing game fan should be excited.
And here we go... Evolve. It gets its beta and DLC first on Xbox. A lot has been said about how incredible the potential is for this game, with original multiplayer, and I really hope it's good because the trailer they showed was exciting. We get to see a new monster -- and oh yeah, it's the Kraken.
Assassin's Creed Unity is next and I'm not an Assassin's Creed guy. You can join with up to three friends on Xbox Live, which might actually be a selling point for me. I mean, I don't own an Xbox One, but I'm assuming it will be this way on PS4 and whatnot.
I'm not expecting the series to be completely re-designed and the footage shown doesn't indicate that it will be. However, I have to admit, seeing the co-op in action has me jazzed for Assassin's Creed for the first time... ever. This will add a whole new dynamic to the experience. It really looks like they're doing this right... if you can play through the story completely in co-op, I am all in.
Then we get a feature about the first games of people. Then people are burning. No this isn't the opening scene of Parasite Eve, it's Dragon Age: Inquistion. Confession time: I've never played a Dragon Age. But I want to play it.
From Fantasy to military shooter. Oh wait no, it's SUNSET OVERDRIVE... the game I'm most pumped for. Nice trickery, Insomniac Games. They show us a fun little teaser trailer before Ted Price comes out and introduces us to some actual gameplay. His favourite game is Super Metroid which makes him okay by me.
So what does Sunset Overdrive play like? It's fast, chaotic and silly. It's colourful and fluid, and I cannot wait. You can play co-op with up to 8 friends, which would be awesome for me.
Next is Dead Rising 3 DLC. It has a really long name but it could definitely be fun. I know, I'm positive.
Here we go with something I really don't care about at all. On October 21, we have Disney Fantasia Music Evolved. You remix your favourite songs through "impressive motion play." In September, there's a digital-only title called Dance Central Spotlight. To anybody who likes this kind of thing, good for you, but it wouldn't see my money if I had an Xbone.
Fable Legends has joined the fight. I'm all for any game that allows me to play the campaign/story with friends, so the game is of interest for that reason, but Fable is not something I'm emotionally invested in. However, you are able to play as the villain and control the world from up above. This is an interesting gameplay mechanic, which I think is a nice addition because the rest of the game looks fine but not awe-inspiring. Looks like another solid Fantasy third-person action title where teamwork might actually be important.
Project Spark is up next, only for Xbox and PC. It looks like there's a lot of variety to the type of games you can make with it. I'll have to see what comes out of it... oh crap, is that... Conker? That's interesting. While I'd rather just have a new Conker, he will apparently be in Project Spark. As I was saying, I'll have to see what comes out of Project Spark but it definitely has a lot of potential.
Moon Studios is coming out with what appears to be a very artistic, side-scrolling platformer called
Ori and the Blind Forest (I think, as I was looking away briefly and I'm not sure if I read the title correctly).
The Halo music that everybody is familiar with hits, and we actually get some real footage of a new Halo. It's pretty epic and it appears that there's someone like Master Chief out there. Bonnie Ross comes out and she's pretty. Hey, I'm a guy.
On November 11th, you can get Halo: The Master Chief Collection and play all the core Halo games (featuring Master Chief of course) on Xbox One. I'm not really excited because I've played them all and I'm not the type of guy who buys this type of thing, but there's no doubt that this is a huge release. It does look like they're putting a lot of care into it... retouching "every part of the game," and they're keeping the Halo 2 multiplayer exactly the same. It has every map in all four of the games, running at 1080p, on dedicated servers and on their original engines. It will also ship with 4000 gamerscore if... you know, that matters to you.
Halo: Nightfall is a digital series and that's included in the collection. Okay, I said I'm not the type of guy who would buy this kind of thing but as the presentation goes on, I'm into it.
In December, the Halo 5: Guardians beta shows up as well. There's a whole lot of Halo in your life.
After people were done filling the cup (Kevin Smith orgasm reference), Phil Spencer shows up to cuddle everyone with some upcoming 2015 games.
The follow-up to Limbo, Inside, is dark, moody and it looks like you're trying to escape from somewhere. I was sold on it before I saw anything just because Limbo was great.
There's a lot of indie games coming, and we see a little bit of some of them. There are too many to talk about, but I will say, there are some truly incredible looking indie games coming. This is why the indie scene is a hotbed for creativity.
Then we have a world premiere of the new Tomb Raider. It doesn't show any gameplay, so it's really hard to tell what it's going to give us.
Then we're treated to some new gameplay for The Witcher 3, one of the most hyped upcoming RPGs.
I don't know what to even say... it just looks like a big, bad RPG. The combat looks solid and the hunting looks fun.
Then Ken Lobb comes out and starts talking about Killer Instinct. But wait, he's bringing sexy something else back. What is it, you ask? None other than Phantom Dust, and I feel really ignorant because I don't even know what that is. The footage only shows us a cinematic of two people throwing fireballs at each other, basically, so I don't know what to think.
Oh man, now we talk about The Division, one of the games I'm most excited for. The video starts with some pretty Christmas music, but I'm going to guess that something goes wrong. You know, just a hunch. Christmas Day is treated so poorly in fiction.
After the squad meets up, we get to witness a battle. I'm well aware that the people playing it are going to play more "professionally" and thus cooler than a lot of players, since they're trying to hype the game up and make it more like real team work (as opposed to a lot of gamers just playing stupid), but damn it looks like a lot of fun. The combat, of course, doesn't go as planned and things get chaotic. Cover gets blown up and the enemies seem to be relatively intelligent. I still don't get how the multiplayer is going to work in the sense that where do opposing players fit in?
Next Scalebound gets shown off with a nice cinematic that once again really tells you very little about the actual game. All these games look cool.
The next exclusive Xbox One game is Crackdown 3. I've always wanted to play Crackdown but haven't gotten around to it. Again, it's all cinematic with lots of explosions so Michael Bay would be proud. What is it going to be like as a game? I'm sure it'll play like the others, but you can't tell much from it.
Oh hey, Phil Spencer is back to wrap it up. He talks about how awesome Xbox is going to continue to be. The press conference ends with a montage of games in a variety of genres
Closing Statement: I think it would have been hard to mess up this press conference because of the focus on games. We know that Microsoft was bound to get some awesome games, and they did a good job of giving the stage to what gamers truly care about. It was a successful conference to me and made me want an Xbone even more than I already do, as its the only next-gen console that I don't currently have.
What do you think? Did I report anything wrong? Don't kill me if I did, because I have a hard time multi-tasking so watching video and writing made my head explode and I was replaced by an incompetent robot.

Try not to pass out from this news, but it appears that there's a new Call of Duty coming. I know, I know... craziness.
Here are some details about the new game, stolen from Gamespot:
Somebody took some influence from TITANFALL.

Continuing their pursuit of trademarking stupid and silly names, Sony recently trademarked Guns Up! and Everything's Game. I can only assume that Guns Up! includes guns.
The Best Kept Secret Since Area 51 -- What Is The Dualshock 4 Light Bar Really For?
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/05/08/dualshock-4-light-bar-created-for-project-morpheus
What is the Dualshock 4 light bar for? When did it come here? Is it friendly or foe? Does it prove the existence of life outside of Earth? Is it alien technology? Does it make sandwiches?
I can answer one of those questions. The Dualshock 4 has annoyed a lot of people apparently, and they released an update that allowed you to dim it. But why is it here? Well... it is on the controller because it has to do with the construction of Project Morpheus, the VR system that Sony is working on.

If you thought a new Call of Duty was a big surprise, then I have a whopper -- not to be confused with the delicious burger -- for you: there's a new NHL game from EA. There's a teaser trailer in the link above, but I can tell you exactly what it'll look like. I bet there's going to be two teams full of people with bad hockey hair, hitting each other and pucks. I know, I'm psychic.

http://www.destructoid.com/the-last-of-us-concept-artist-teases-something-with-artwork-274281.phtml

It looks like a grown-up version of Ellie from The Last Of Us. After he realized people gave a crap, he said this:

There are images in the link above, and if it is true, the game is titled "Project Beast" as of right now. Is this legit or is it fake? I don't know, but I will call From Software tomorrow.

Ah yes, just like the good ol' days.

The Second Towns Developer Has Left... And You Probably Shouldn't Pay Attention To This Game Anymore
http://www.destructoid.com/towns-left-in-limbo-as-second-developer-quits-the-project-274462.phtml
Florian Frankenberger is making like Ben Affleck in The Town and putting Towns in his rear view. After the original developer left, he tried to do what he could, but he's not making money and has bills to pay and people to feed so he's out. And you should be out of Towns. Go to a nice village or something, avoid the city.
Stephan Frost Says That WildStar Is One Of The Most Feature-Complete MMO In The Last 10 Years
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/upcoming-pc-game-wildstar-is-one-of-the-most-feature-complete-mmos-of-the-past-10-years/1100-6419508/
From Gamespot:
Except HBO is a channel that offers TV shows of various types... you're a single game that offers the same experiences all the time, because you're just one game. But besides that, yeah, you're right.
The Elder Scrolls Online Delayed For Consoles
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/elder-scrolls-online-xbox-one-ps4-delay-confirmed-bethesda-explains-why-it-was-necessary/1100-6419504/
If you're a console gamer and are waiting to be bored like the rest of us, you'll have to wait. It looks like The Elder Scrolls Online is delayed for consoles. They cited "unique problems," but they're trying to make us a deal: if you buy the game on PC now, you can transfer your characters from PC to Xbone/PS4 and get the game for consoles for $20. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/oculus-vr-aspires-to-create-an-mmo-world-with-1-billion-people-in-it/1100-6419518/
The Oculus CEO stated this week that he wants to create the largest MMO ever, using the Oculus Rift. He is planning on a billion people. He also had this to say, which I want to make fun of:
It's fun that he mentioned the Game Boy since we're at the Nintendo 3DS. I know this is just semantics, but like I said I want to make fun of him. For someone so forward thinking, it's great that he chose such an old handheld.

DICE Give Up, Turn To The Community

It appears that DICE themselves realize that they can't fix Battlefield 4, because they have created the "Community Test Environment" that allows PC users to help them test out things.
You've spent your money on it, now you can help fix it. That seems... fair.
I kid Battlefield 4, I kid. I actually enjoy you.
GLAAD Is Not ?Glaad? That Tomodachi Life Doesn't Have Same-Sex Relationships
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-responds-to-criticism-regarding-same-sex-relationships-in-tomodachi-life-update/1100-6419530/
It appears that GLAAD -- the LGBT group -- is not happy about Nintendo not including same-sex relationships in their odd, life simulator (that doesn't fully simulate life) game Tomodachi Life.
Wilson Cruz cruz'd to a criticism of Nintendo, stating, "In purposefully limiting players' relationship options, Nintendo is not only sending a hurtful message to many of its fans and consumers by excluding them, but also setting itself way behind the times."
The Big N had this to say in response, "We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change this game’s design, and such a significant development change can’t be accomplished with a post-ship patch. At Nintendo, dedication has always meant going beyond the games to promote a sense of community, and to share a spirit of fun and joy. We are committed to advancing our longtime company values of fun and entertainment for everyone. We pledge that if we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players."
In my humble opinion, it would have been nice if Nintendo had included homosexuality in Tomodachi Life so I could finally come out of the closet in a safe environment (with myself?), but it's likely that a lot of people will just see this as silly, thus hurting GLAAD's crusade.

Sony's E3 Press Conference Is June 9 At 6 p.m. PDT
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-playstation-e3-2014-press-conference-dated-for-june-9-6pm/1100-6419546/
On June 9 at 6 p.m. PDT, Sony will be doing their press conference. If you remember, which if you're a gamer you probably do, Sony came in like a wrecking ball last E3. Will they do what they did last year and become the Heavyweight Champion of the World while they slap down the competition? Or will it be more normal? I can't wait to find out.
Well folks, that is it for the Weekly News Round-Up. We've had United States terrorism/imperialism, free Unreal Tournaments, DICE throwing in the towel, and lots of Nintendo saying things. We've had some good times, we've had some bad times, we've had some grey times because LIFE ISN'T BLACK AND WHITE MAN. Until next week -- or whenever I write another article that you will subsequently ignore -- I am Tyler, and you can tell me what you think on my pretentious Twitter account @ArtBathednCrime or in the comments below. You can even send a carrier pigeon to my house if that's what tickles your fancy. See ya!
Remember That Call of Duty Series? Here Are Some Details On The New Game, Advanced Warfare
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/tons-of-call-of-duty-advanced-warfare-details-emerge/1100-6419415/
Try not to pass out from this news, but it appears that there's a new Call of Duty coming. I know, I know... craziness.
Here are some details about the new game, stolen from Gamespot:
- In development at Sledgehammer Games for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. A separate studio to be named later is working on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. There's no word on Wii U.
- The game runs on a new and unspecified game engine.
- The story opens with a catastrophic event that Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey describes as "like a global 9/11." There's little more to go on, but major cities on multiple continents are affected by some kind of terrorism perpetrated by a terrorist organization called KVA.
- It is set in 2054.
- You play a character named Private Mitchell, who is voiced by prolific voice actor Troy Baker. You may know Baker for his recent roles in The Last of Us (Joel), BioShock Infinite (Booker), and Batman: Arkham Origins (The Joker). Mitchell only speaks during cutscenes; never during gameplay.
- Mitchell starts Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare as a Marine, who is squadmates with Will Irons, the son of Private Military Company Atlas Corporation CEO Jonathan Irons (played by Kevin Spacey). After their tour of duty is done, the elder Irons asks Mitchell if he wants to leave the Marines to join his company. Mitchell says yes and is outfitted with an "EXO" suit for his new job.
- Unlike past Call of Duty games, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has only one protagonist.
- Kevin Spacey says he was "very excited" about joining the game when he was originally approached.
- You'll earn points every mission that can be used to upgrade your EXO suit. Using the EXO suit, you can climb walls with magnetic gloves, boost-dodge toward cover, perform super-jumps that let you get to higher ground, use optic camouflage for cloaking, and hover in mid-air.
- Your arsenal includes "variable grenades," which can be switched from concussion to threat detection while they cook. The threat detection grenade reveals enemy locations and makes this information available via an augmented reality system visible in your visor.
- Some of your guns are energy-based, and do not use traditional ammunition.
- There is a rideable vehicle called a Pitbull, which is based on the real world Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.
- There's no official word on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer yet, but Condrey teases, "You can probably imagine the possibilities of a lot of the stuff you saw in single-player and how it would apply online." Activision also says it is "absolutely committed" to supporting eSports.
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will have some kind of co-op mode.
- Veteran Metal Gear Solid composer Harry Gregson-Williams is working on the game's soundtrack. Audio director Don Veca says, "I think Advanced Warfare is going to be the best-sounding and certainly the best-mixed game ever."
- In an effort to create a believable world, Activision consulted with "experts from production design in movies to experts in the military to scientists and futurists," according to Sledgehammer cofounder Glen Schofield.
Somebody took some influence from TITANFALL.

Phil Spencer Is Talking Again
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-boss-promises-new-ip-and-sequel-announcements-at-e3/1100-6419419/
Phil Spencer recently said that there will be new IPs and sequel announcements at E3, but he also said some other stuff. Again, from Gamespot:
- Microsoft is focusing on hardcore gamers for the show.
- Some announcements will be made in May, ahead of E3. "Yea, you'll get a couple of things before. May should be a good month for news. Took me a month to get plans set," Spencer said.
- Microsoft will announce new studios it's working with.
- Spencer is not allowed to talk about anything related to what Halo studio 343 Industries is working on.
- Microsoft's overall goal for 2014: "I feel like what we will show this year is stuff we are committed to, from top studios, for this year and future."
- Don't expect a Microsoft-made gaming handheld anytime soon. "I don't think we'll do a dedicated handheld gaming device, rather just focus on [Windows Phone], tablets, maybe with controller support someday," Spencer said.
- Spencer wants Microsoft's E3 2014 showing to be more "fan focused."
- Microsoft thought about using the voice of Cortana for their E3 show, but Spencer did not like this. Asked if the Cortana voice search functionality could come to Xbox One someday, Spencer said, "I like [Windows Phone] feature but don't want to overdo it."
- Gamers won't need to wait until the Tokyo Game Show (September) to learn about new Japanese Xbox One games.
- Microsoft is close to finalizing a release date for the Xbox One version of Minecraft.
- The Lost Odyssey rights are "a bit complicated," but Spencer would like to see the 2008 role-playing game come to Games on Demand some day.
- Details about external storage support for Xbox One are coming later.
- Why there hasn't been a Battletoads sequel: "Just time, lot's of things we want to build, all the teams are full right now and a long list of what they'd want to do next. You want to spend time because you want things to be as good as they can be, I don't want to do cheap ports," Spencer said.
Their E3 presentation will be titled "Xbox: Game On" and it will take place Monday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m. PDT.

There's a teaser trailer in the link above, but I can tell you exactly what it'll look like. I bet there's going to be two teams full of people with bad hockey hair, hitting each other and pucks. So before its gonna get blown out of proportions - its gonna be strictly personal image.

Stephan Frost Says That WildStar Is One Of The Most Feature-Complete MMO In The Last 10 Years
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/upcoming-pc-game-wildstar-is-one-of-the-most-feature-complete-mmos-of-the-past-10-years/1100-6419508/
From Gamespot:
"We decided to go with the subscription fee because we are a triple-A game," Frost said. "We are one of the most feature-complete MMOs to be coming out in the past 10 years. HBO, for example, is premium content. It has great shows like Game of Thrones and True Detective. They don't charge extra for those things, they're just charging that sub fee and people gladly pay it because it's good. If it wasn't good, they wouldn’t pay for it."
Except HBO is a channel that offers TV shows of various types... you're a single game that offers the same experiences all the time, because you're just one game. But besides that, yeah, you're right.

They cited "unique problems," but they're trying to make us a deal: if you buy the game on PC now, you can transfer your characters from PC to Xbone/PS4 and get the game for consoles for $20. Why not... buy it twice?

If you got an apple device, you can grab the new Harmonix game for free now. It's a rhythm runner where you avoid obstacles and whatnot, and you can import your own playlist. So finally you can use that grindcore-laptop-death-pop-jazz fusion-jelly-fishcake-thrash-rap song that you really like.
It's going to be coming to Android as well.
Believe In The Shield Because Portal Is Coming To The Nvidia Shield Next Week

On May 12, you can pick up Portal on the Nvidia Shield. So... do that.
Oculus VR To Create The Largest MMO Ever?
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/oculus-vr-aspires-to-create-an-mmo-world-with-1-billion-people-in-it/1100-6419518/
The Oculus CEO stated this week that he wants to create the largest MMO ever, using the Oculus Rift. He is planning on a billion people. He also had this to say, which I want to make fun of:
"Do we want to be Game Boy, or do we want to be iPhone or Android? I think Game Boy is an awesome platform, but I think you'll see that handheld gaming device largely disrupted by the mobile market. For VR, where we want to go, connecting a billion people, do you want to be building a platform that has a billion users on it, or 10 or 20 or 50 million?"

Games I Kind Of Wish I Could Stop "Reporting" On -- TITANFALL and Battlefield 4
New TITANFALL DLC Is Called Swampland, Here's A Picture Of It

DICE Give Up, Turn To The Community
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/battlefield-4-dev-turns-to-fans-for-help-testing-new-improvements/1100-6419516/
Can't we all just get along? #Ihatehashtags
Sony's E3 Press Conference Is June 9 At 6 p.m. PDT

| Sony last year. |
See ya!

My 30 Most Anticipated Games of 2014: 30 - 16
Written By: Tyler Selig
![]() |
| I've been to the future, I know. |
Before
I celebrate the year in games, I just want to take an opportunity to give you a
rundown of some – not all because that’s way too much work – of my games that
I’m anticipating most next year. Believe me, next year is shaping up to be an
incredible year, but then, all years are good, regardless of what some people
want to say. This will be two parts, the first part released today and the
second released tomorrow so make sure to check back.
However, this year there was a
bit of a lull at the beginning, as their often is, but next year has decided to
launch a bunch of games of interest right off the bat.
These have to be games that have
at least been announced for a 2014 release, even if they end up getting
delayed. It feels wrong not including some of the games that were in the rough
draft of the list, but the integrity of the list is important so I argued with
myself to come up with the thirty games that, as of this moment, I am most
hyped for that come out in 2014! Let’s do this.
Games I
Forgot When Making the List:
Conception II – 2014 North American
release, looks like a great RPG.
The Evil Within – Will hopefully be
incredibly scary.
South Park and the Stick of Truth –
Much delayed, looks to have the South Park charm.
Quantum Break – Could just be a
shit-ton of fun.
DayZ – The kind of game that is “next
gen” to me. It’s in Alpha now. Hopefully 2014 sees the full release.
Dungeon Defenders 2
– I can’t believe I forgot some of these games. So hyped for this one.
30: Bravely Default (3DS)
There are a bunch of games next
year coming to both Wii U and 3DS, but Bravely Default is the only game on this
list that is only coming to 3DS. I’m sure the 3DS will have another fantastic
year, but as of making this list… it was a little dry on 3DS exclusives.
I’m a JRPG guy, having grown up
playing Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, etc and it’s nice to see
another JRPG hit North American shores and look awesome. A big selling point to
me here is the fact that there’s a job system, which I always appreciate.
29: Child of Light (PC, PS3, PS4, Wii
U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
Damn,
another JRPG thrown in here? Yes, and due to the fact that I have faith in
Ubisoft, I’m really excited for this one. It looks beautiful, and with its
platforming and story, it looks like it’s going to be something truly special.
28: LISA the painful RPG (PC)
Wow another RPG! But yeah, I
Kickstartered this, and I’m really excited because it has an interesting
premise and looks to do quite a bit of interesting things with the premise. It
has a gritty, dark art-style but it’s not without humour. The creator has a
better description of what to expect from this game, so I’ll just link the
Kickstarter page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/131274701/lisa-the-painful-rpg
27: Interstellar Marines (PC)
I haven’t actually played this
even though I can, mostly because I don’t want to play betas… I bought it
because it said it was going to be like Rainbow Six with some RPG elements, and
that had me sold because we don’t have a lot of tactical shooters anymore, and
I love me some RPG elements in shooters anyway. Not to mention my older
brother, who I do most of my gaming with, also likes those things and this game
is going to have co-op. I haven’t even really read about it anymore or watched
videos, because they already have my money and I want to experience it when
it’s done, so it may not be shaping up to be much for all I know, but I’m
excited.
26:
Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One)
Insomniac
Games meets Parkour, crazy platforming action… with some fun, silly violence. I
just think this game is going to be a great time for those who aren’t super
cereal all the time. Makes me wish I had an Xbox One.
25: Halo 5
It’s not that I’m against Halo,
because I am most definitely not. I love Halo – it’s been one of my go-to
Multiplayer shooters for years and I always play through the campaign. I got
mad respect for Halo. Playstation 4 was always going to be my primary system,
but when Microsoft fucked up their E3 Press Conference, I didn’t say, “Goodbye
Microsoft.” I said, “Goodbye Halo.” It’s that important.
It’s just that there are so many
new experiences coming, and games in series that I like more, that the
anticipation for Halo drops a little. Look, I don’t need to tell you that Halo
5 is going to be awesome, because they’ve all been (ODST less so, but it was
still good). If you’re reading this blog you probably already know what the
series has given us, and seeing the first Next-Gen entry will be incredible.
It’ll be one of the games of the year.
That trailer is also epic as
hell.
24: Pillars of Eternity
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-CPTsWLfWM
Formally known as Project
Eternity, this is a throw-back to those classic PC Point-And-Click RPGs –
except this time it’s not focused on D&D. That seems like it’d be
controversial a little bit, but I don’t really care because while there are a
few of them I really like, PC gaming was not my thing back then (as I never
even got my first PC until I was 16, and it wasn’t a gaming one anyway). I
don’t have loyalty to the old guard, is what I’m trying to say.
Pillars of Eternity looks to be
a fantastic addition to the genre, however, and I eagerly await the tactical
gameplay, and I hope that there’s a good amount of depth because let’s face it…
this genre without depth is a terrible tragedy.
23: Torment: Tides of Numenera
Planescape:
Torment is my favourite game in the canon of the PC Point-And-Click RPGs. I
loved the humour, and the plot was up there with the all-time greats. I also
enjoyed the fact that you didn’t really have to fight, so it opened up the game
a little bit more than other games within the genre.
Well, this is the spiritual
successor, and even if it’s only half as good as the original, it’ll be
awesome.
22: Hyper Light Drifter (PC)
I think this ends up being one
of those special indie games that come along and show the big boys how to do
it, much like a game like Bastion. Everything from the beautiful visuals to the
music, to the intense looking action… this is shaping up to be an epic adventure,
and I certainly can’t wait to play it. That trailer is awesome.
21: Below (Xbox One)
That video above is all I’ve
seen about the game, and that’s all it took. I mean, it also helps that I was
such a fan of Sword & Sworcery, so I have a tremendous amount of faith.
Like Hyper Light Drifter, this will be special. It’ll be one of the games of the
year.
Even the view is a little bit
different, it being more pulled out than most games. You have the team that did
Sword & Sworcery, with Guthrie returning to do the music – I just can’t see
how this can’t be amazing. It’s another reason why I need an Xbox One.
20: Transistor (PS4, PC)
I’ve mentioned Bastion, and now
we have the successor to that classic – Transistor. It looks to follow the same
formula that brought Bastion to the dance, which is a wonderful story and fun
action, but I’m not saying that they’re just using all the same tricks because
they aren’t, such as the fact that it’s got turn-based strategy. To be hones
the gameplay sort-of reminds me of Parasite Eve in ways, which is always a good
thing.
19: The
Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWXjzLEGV9U
As much as I try not to be
excited for this game because of the monthly subscription fee, I can’t help it!
I’ve always said that while the Elder Scrolls games are great, if they let me
play with someone they’d be so much better. And sure enough, here we are, and
this may be a game I wave my hate for monthly subscription fees and actually
pick up.
18: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC,
PS4, Xbox One)
The only reason this isn’t
higher is because I haven’t played the first or second games, and I don’t know
if that means that I won’t understand the story in the third or not. I hope
that they do a good job of introducing newbies to the series, plot-wise,
because this game looks like it’s going to live up to the hype.
17: Watch Dogs (PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U,
Xbox 360, Xbox One, Your Eyeballs, Atari 2600, PS8, Xbox Two, Game Gear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPYgXvgS6Ww
There’s this game that built a
ridiculous amount of excitement last year, and then we thought we’d finally
play it in 2013, but now we’re not. My hype dropped a little bit over the year,
mostly because they were throwing so much into our face, but it’s hard to deny
that Watch Dogs is going to do something original with the Sandbox genre.
It’s also coming to everything
so you’ll be able to play it.
16: No Man’s Sky (PC)
This game came out of nowhere
and blew people away. They promise to let you explore anything that you can
see, and this is a really ambitious game for such a small team. There’s not a
hell of a lot known about it so far, but it looks to be an awe-inspiring
experience.
So make sure to tune in tomorrow for the final fifteen. Each day up until the new year there will be new content, so make sure to check out this blog everyday! After my most anticipated games of 2014, I'll have my miscellaneous awards for 2013 games, and then four days of listing my top 40 games of 2013.
